"Hi all, My son has been in Okinawa now 9 months. He's there for 2 years. He also said he thinks he may want to extend to stay there for his last year. He likes it there. Hopefully he'll get leave next May…"
"Here are some of the things I sent to our Marine for the Christmases he was stationed @ Okinawa: Kindle Fire, camera, video games, movies, his favorite candies, cookies, Slim Jims, beef jerky, socks, Danner boots, T-shirts from his favorite…"
""tis the Season, at least for us with Marines over seas. lol For a fun stocking stuffer, have you seen the new Splat Balls? I just picked up the eyeball, a pig and the egg. I think if I could, I would trade in the egg for another eyeball.…"
"Thank you for the ideas everyone! I knew I'd get the answers I needed from everyone here. I like the ideas and that should work for the family as well. He did ask for approved leave and money so maybe we can work on the money and he can work on…"

"I really need to watch my spell check!! I meant son and gift certificates. I also sent stockings and any type of decorations that I could cram into the flat rate boxes. I sent my son several boxes sparatically so I could make sure he had something…"
That is so neat! I have a sneaky feeling they are asking the MP MOS people to do this because it fits right in with their MOS. Unfortunately my son is Heavy Equipment Operator Engineer .... definitely would not be conducive to having a K9 with him while operating heavy machinery. :( I think my son would have been really good with the K9 unit. He has a natural way with animals. Our dog trainer mentioned it to him and so did his horseback riding instructor. I suppose if he really wanted to though, he could request a new MOS in his next two years.
Woohoo! Here's to hoping that six months goes by real fast for you! Yes, it was great having Andrew home for Christmas. Unless there is a change of plans, Andrew will be in A-stan for next Christmas, so we made sure to savor every moment! Fingers crossed that you'll have Dylan home! : )
Hey mmc671, I just had a look at the pics on your profile. Dylan looks great! Love the silly faces he's made in some of them, LOL. His working dog is gorgeous! Is he back in Oki now? Hope you all are doing well! Happy New Year!!
Hello! How nice of you to be thinking of us. I really do think of you guys often. Looking back on last time we had contact, Andrew was still in Afghanistan. He and his platoon were sent back to the states after being there for only three months due to the drawdown of troops over there!! The Lord really answered prayer for us. Andrew is doing great. He's at Camp Pendleton, and so far we have been able to see him every six weeks or so.
I'm so glad you got to go see Dylan!! Eleven months is such a long time. It must have been hard. How long is his class in San Antonio? And K9 school?? How cool is that!! When Andrew was doing research on different MOS's before he joined, he said it was not easy to get into K9 school. It's great catching up with you. I will give Andrew your message. We really appreciate your prayers. Give Dylan our best wishes, and we'll be praying as well. Enjoy that 30 days! Woohooo!
Wow, hard to believe it's already been almost 5 months! I'm glad to hear Dylan is doing well.
Andrew's MOS is 0814 HIMARS (artillery). He's on nights for now, and so far we've had decent communication, usually a short facebook chat or message. I sent my first care package which included a blanket and lots of hand/feet warmers!
Andrew was thrilled to shed the Private title as well! Ha!
Thanks for the update. It's nice to keep in touch!
Hello mmc671! I was just thinking about you and wondering how you are doing! How is Dylan doing over in Japan? Is he liking it there? A friend of mine's son has gotten his orders for Oki. She's bummed, but hopeful that it means no deployment for now.
Andrew has been in Afghanistan for a couple of weeks, and is doing well...just trying to stay warm!
