According to the July 8th issue of the VFW Washington Weekly, "The Marine Corps family stationed at North Carolina's Camp Lejeune between 1957 and 1987 is aware of some severe health issues that may have resulted from using contaminated well water that contained carcinogens". The VFW has strongly supported "Caring for Camp Lejeune Veterans Act of 2011 (S. 277)," which would provide VA healthcare to assigned Marines, their families and veterans.
