Oh melinda0122, we all know about the heartache! I can't tell you that it gets better, but your sense of what is "normal" changes over time. Our loved ones are going through HUGE changes in a very short amount of time. They need to be tough to be Marines. I can promise that your son will still have his sense of humor and smile...next time you see him.
