Angry and Proud- Makes me feel mental....

Posted on October 13, 2012 at 7:29am 122 Comments

So here goes my personal failures for all to see....I am angry at my son. I am so proud of my son. My son has wanted to join the Marines since he was about 11. I thought I had so much time. Now he is 18 is on his 3rd day at Bootcamp and I feel angry. I feel proud. When he got older and spoke of it more, his Dad and i (a former Marine himself..I hate him right now too because I can and I am sure it is his fault my son is so far from home and everyday I walk by him and see the absolute pride…

Brandy, yesterday, in particular, a few members chatted back and forth.  Each time they posted it was a new email added to the previous conversation.  So, I got one email for 'x' but it linked to maybe four posts from them.   Same for a couple of other members.  Go back and check the 'string' of emails listed for one member and you'll see what I'm saying.  It took me awhile to figure that out, too!

Hmmmm, well, if you reply to a specific topic you should automatically be receiving an email to that topic when people post.  If you're just reading a specific topic and do not reply to it you won't get an email unless you click on "Follow" under the first post but before the first reply.

Here is a 'Having trouble' topic to getting too many emails.  By going into your settings as it shows you may have to check specific boxes to get more emails!  I chuckle because most members complain about all of the emails!

http://marinefamilynetwork.com/forum/topics/too-many-emails-from-mfn

To reply to your comments below mine you need to go to that member's page to do so.

And you have found that when you scroll down this page, on the left, under the photos of your friends, all of the groups you've joined are listed - just click on the logo or the name to get to them again.

I hope this helps you out!  Let me know if there's something more specific.

Hello brandy. Make sure u join the marine recruit depot San Diego Facebook page. They do put pics up of new platoons. My son has bee in since sept 17th. I wish I can say it gets easier but for us mothers it doesn't. We are very proud of our children but at the same time we feel as if our hearts have been ripped right from us. Advice I can give you. Once u get a letter just keep them going to him. We send letters out every 2 days. As much as he looks forward to them, I just can't wait for the mail to arrive at my house every day. Please don't be alarmed when he says he wants to come home. (If he does). I wanted to get in my car and go get my son ASAP. But I also had to think that by the time I have received his letter another week went by and he was already doing something different. We are all so proud of our kids. Good luck to all and OOH-RAH !!!!!

Good morning.  Thank you for your comments regarding my writing.  When my son was injured the second time, I started with the poetry, and I'm afraid I flooded the pages with it.  It was a release for me, a way to cope, and somehow, sometimes, it seems to help others too.  If I can touch one other parent's heart, ease one other Mom or Dad in some way, I have accomplished something worthwhile.

We have a FB page set up which I can't advertise on MFN other than through private message.  The link is below, please request to join.  It's a great way to get connected on a more personal level with the other families and we have some great admins who have been through all of this below so there is a TON of information within the files.  Right now the group is set up for the SD recruits but if the PI recruits don't have a FB page we will expand it for all recruits leaving on 10/9.

Hi Lori....

It's nice to meet you. My name is Kim.  I know exactly how you are feeling with wanting to make sure everything is ok with our sons. I keep saying this "natural progression of life" really stinks! I went through almost 30 years ago (yikes!) and my parents had no clue what I was going through since no one in my family was in the military, let alone a girl! Imagine what it would be like if we didn't have the communication that we have today???

I have no doubt we'll be getting a phone call sometime today or at least I hope! I'm flying out of town this weekend and hate the thought of it coming while I'm in the air!! :( Today is their second full day so hopefully it's a better one. I know it's still chaotic for them but a routine is getting started. And by tonight or tomorrow they should get their regular sleep! :)

I too have been looking through all these websites and message boards, it's a little overwhelming!! But again I'm thankful for them!

It's nice to meet you and look forward to chatting and sharing over the next 13 weeks. Who knows, our sons might even be in the same platoon? We'll find out in the next few weeks.

Hang in there and I'm glad to write with you :)

Kim
