I also have Zachs Grandparents coming with (and maybe Zachs sisters age 6 & 7) Love to help but need to decline...

I appreciate you asking. However, I will have to decline.  I have a future marine grandmother that will be in a wheelchair and my special needs sister that I will have to look after during family day and graduation.

Hi Lisa,

It's great that our boys are in the same platoon.  Have you received any mail from Jordan yet?  Will you be making the trip out to San Diego? I have to admit, curiosity is killing me - I would love to be a "fly on the wall" and see what our boys are going through.  Sean has always been such a calm, quiet  guy that I have trouble imaging him going through all of this. :-) He is a better person than I!  Take care.

Hi LadyoftheLord,

I believe you and your family were in the waiting room at MEPS with my husband and I, and our sons were sworn in at the same time.  Good to see you on the message boards.  I'm sorry you haven't received your phone call. I have no doubts that all is well with our sons. I guess we'll be couting down the days to graduation together.  Take care.

Welcome to MFN LadyoftheLord - we're glad you joined us.  I wanted to answer a couple of your questions that you asked us:

1) Your recruit is at MCRD SD (that stands for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego).  He is not at Camp Pendleton right now; Camp Pendleton is about 40 miles north of MCRD SD.  The recruits will head up to Camp Pendleton later on in training - during Phase 2 of Bootcamp and then again for the Crucible (near the end of Bootcamp).

2) Most of the time you will receive the "I've arrived" phone call which is usually very short and only a sentence or two.  It could come at almost any time.  If you do not receive the phone call; try not to worry.  One thing to keep in mind during the entire time your son is in the Corps is that you will always be notified if something was wrong.  Therefore, most recruit parents and Marine parents live by the "No news is good news" motto.  In the meantime, please come here to get some support and meet other folks who have recruits training along side of your son.
