1~Good2GoMom (Barb) Director: Outreach Programs

Why is there a 1~ in front of my username?

I know it might look a little funny, but it just means that I’m a volunteer at MarineParents.com.  (All of our volunteers have a "1~" on the front of their usernames.)

My job title is Director of Outreach Programs.

My areas of responsibility are the Outreach Programs of MarineParents.com including:

I hope you will take a moment and click on some of our Outreach Groups and see if there is some way that you might be able to help.  We have activities that members can do right in their own homes or communities.  All of our Outreach Programs make a HUGE impact on the lives of Marines and their families - please consider joining us.  If you have any questions about any one of them, just post a comment on my page and I promise to get back to you ASAP.

Thanks,

Barb

This is a video I made for my son Dave, before he deployed to Afghanistan....(he's back and is now IRR, married, working and attending college too!)

I'm new to MFN and my son will graduate MOS school on March 12, 2013. He called the other day and told me that two weeks after he gets to Lejune (first of April) that my son may be briefed to be deployed to Afganistan. All I could do was choke back the tears because being in the corp I knew what he was going to be up against. I'm thinking that I'm going to get my community and my fellow hospital employees NF/SG Va

I am glad you liked the change to my page. I am still trying to cruise around and find my way LOL. It's great starting to meet people.

Serious question, is it just you and me running?  Or, less than five peeps?  What about the blocked roads and the cheering crowds?

I kind of hope it is small, then I can walk the whole way and no one will know.  AND I get a t-shirt.  How is the best way to donate?  We're not doing so good at the fundraising...yet.

Ha!!  No way!!  I'm in training for the recruit board and I'm ready to have 75 chocolate shakes!  You're doing a great job.

Barb,

Why are there only 3 people signed up for the 10K and 5 for the marathon?  Are "they" still encouraging under 15 minute miles?  This will be my first 10K and I don't understand the lack of support.

Thank you! I'm hoping the feeling of being overwhelmed goes away soon. :-/ But I know I'm going to love it. :)

You have a huge job with the Outreach Program. I have done few and 'pushed' for a little support too.

I saw your note, Barb, on Tina's page.  We visited Tellico Village four times over three years in the late 90s, planning to retire there.  Tellico Village is south of Knoxville and a little west, if I remember correctly, of Maryville - that Tina mentioned.  It is a gorgeous, gorgeous area on Tellicao Lake with the Smokies as a backdrop.  Of course, when push came to shove, I couldn't leave the area we've lived in most of our lives and too far from the kids...even though property taxes are so very low there.

If you get the time you might visit that area, too, after Fairfield Glade.  What fun to go 'shopping' : )!
