My son's choices not my life

Back in the late 70's I joined the U.S. Air Force. As an already certified aircraft mechanic it was the prudent thing to do. However, my heart was in the Marine Corps. Today my decision has paid dividends in the job that I was able to attain. Recently my second oldest of five boys joined the Marine Corps, he is a "poolee" and won't leave for several months. I can't describe how proud of him I am. However, I do have a problem and that is I have to learn to let him live his life, and I find…

Hey Danny, my understanding is those infantry who want to be RECON have two choices (1.) Contract Recon - they train at Pendleton, CA and if they fail the USMC can put them wherever they choose (2.) Train infantry, do well and request RECON, then they go to Pendleton to train for RECON. My son is SOI, Infantry, and originally wanted Recon but he does NOT want them to put him wherever they want if he can't achieve that level. So he's going to Camp Geiger, NC.  Hope all is well with you and Bri5 & your boys ... enjoy these last few days.
