Why is there a 1~ in front of my username?
That means that I’m a volunteer at Marine Parents.com. My job title is Chat Room Moderator and my responsibilities are to host the 3/3 Battalion weekly deployment chats. My mission is to welcome newcomers, help chatters get the answers they are hoping for, keep the conversation going in a positive direction, protect the operational security of our deployed Marines by ensuring our chats stay on the right side of the OpSec rules, and hopefully create the type of environment that 3/3 families want to visit for comfort and support -- and a good belly laugh now and then.

A member started a discussion about "small happinesses," and it has been one of my small happinesses to check in there daily and spend a quiet moment sharing in each other's homely pleasures. I say "homely" because most are about home: new fish that didn't die when added to a tank, door trim sanded and painted, a perennial plant not expected to survive the winter peeping out of the soil.

I don't write poems, and I can't write love songs, and my husband is much better at dialogue than I am. I can sometimes tell stories, but I mostly just write. I write out of need, and to figure things out, and because sometimes I just don't know any other way to empty my brain.
