Names of seven Marines killed in Hawthorne incident released

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Seven Marines with 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, were killed and eight others were injured, which includes a Navy Corpsman, in an explosion during a live-fire training exercise at Hawthorne Army Depot, Nev., shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013.

Private First Class Joshua M. Martino, 19, of Clearfield, Pa., served as a mortarman assigned to 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment. He joined the Marine Corps in July 2012. Martino's awards include the National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

    My heartfelt condolences.  I cannot imagine the sorrow; but you know he was doing what he had wanted to do.  He gave all.  God Bless your hearts!  Words cannot comfort you like the Lord can do.

    This is incredibly hard to read... my younger brother actually joined the Marines during the same month last summer, to think of this ultimate loss before he's barely dipped his toes in the Corps just breaks my heart. Josh and his brothers will never be forgotten.  Please accept my sympathies as a member of your extended family and know that you are not alone.
