I wrote this poem after my son finished his Crucible in May 2015.  I am very proud of him but you all know as MoM's we will worry about them no matter what.  Feel free to share my poem.

By Cat

You hold that new life in your arms the day that he was born
Not knowing what becomes of him on that hot July morn.

You do whatever you think wise to raise that boy just right.
By asking God to do what’s best while praying in the night.

That boy as he gets older, his actions then will show
His future is now calling and it’s time for him to grow.

Each day you see it building and your eyes begin to tear
That lump that’s forming in your throat confirming your worst fear.

He stood that day before me, it was written in his eyes.
I knew this time would come along, for me there’s no surprise.

I’m leaving home in early March, it really won’t be long.
We’ll write each other letters, they’ll help to keep me strong.

I know that you are worried but please mom don’t you cry
Thirteen weeks, it goes by fast, believe me time will fly.

You take a breath as he swears in with loved ones who have come
You try to read their faces, some proud and others numb.

So time to change your outlook, to help him grow and thrive.
Friends, family and support groups will help you to survive.

You slowly start to see a change, your heart will fill with pride.
You did what’s right and held on tight, that roller coaster ride.

He now is called a new Marine, no Poolees or Recruits
From bottles, toys and soft booties to canteens, guns and boots.

As the dimly lit sky

begins to shed light,

I peek through moistened eyes.

Intently, I listen

to soft whistles by few

as if scripted harmony

just for me

slowly sang,

with time to spare

so I'm aware.

Slowly, I rise.

Aches return

as if vengeance owed

so of course my pace is slowed.

I step out to glance across the field

my nestled border,

yes, my morning ritual.

I watch the thistles dance

among themselves

as if attempting to rid themselves

of mornings dew.

Summers arms

grip me tightly

until finally released

by a slight breeze

as our furry love,

yes, our K-9 companion

seeks shade.

Letters written

surpass my time,

as promised,

while your away.

Moments pass.....

I sit and fire up

my habit

inhaled with half breath

while daily tasks spin wildly

inside my head.

Thoughts are scattered

like distorted debris,

I again inhale,

yearning to focus.

Unreasonable yes,

still, I'm convinced this poison

I inhale,

I need.

I contemplate how time will pass

tedious mundane tasks you ask?

Family, friends, they will be

a welcoming call,

I'll welcome them all. it ever my friend?

Should it be?

All I seems to do

is wish it away.

But still.....

For you son, I hope

time flies.

For me,

no matter,

it will creep.

I'm so proud of my son. Believing in God is very important to my son. I received a letter from him today telling me he is a Prayer leader for his Platoon group. God Bless them all!
