Comment by Jeffrey Keating 13 hours ago To all,
The link below is a great place to find information about what your Marine is going through at MCT.
[Moderator inserted: the link to the official MCT facebook page is on our Unit Information Page under Other Helpful Websites near the bottom of the page: http://www.marineparents.com/units/Print.asp?ID=503 ]
Here is an answer about liberty that was on that page:
Liberty is a privilege that is earned and not a right. All liberty times are based off of mission accomplishment. Your Marines must accomplish certain mission prior to executing liberty. A Marine that fails an event will not be granted liberty.
Your Marine is here for 29 Days and all the company schedules are updated daily by 0900 PST (9:00am)on the Facebook Timeline. Here are the only liberty times during the 29 Day Training Cycle:
T-5 (first Sunday)
1100-1800 (52 Area-just the local camp area)
T-18 (third Saturday)
1100-2000 (On Base)
T-19 (third Sunday)
1300-1800 (On Base)
Overnight Liberty
T-24 (fourth Saturday)
Mid-afternoon - 0000
T-25 (fourth Sunday)
0001 – 1630
These times are all PST and again based off of mission accomplishment. Times could be pushed for study periods if a test is coming up the next week or after the liberty period. Thanks for your understanding. It is our responsibility to make sure your Marine is ready for all operations as a rifleman in the Marine Corps. We understand that the limited ability to communicate with him is difficult but know that our passion to teach him what is required during combat operations is worth it. Thanks for your understanding and being involved in his career.
Comment by mjaussie89 14 hours ago Sure. Not the news we'd love to give you, but at least over the time he is at MCT, there is typically several opportunities to at least hear from him via phone! Good luck to you and him!
Comment by susie 14 hours ago Thank you so much.
Comment by mjaussie89 14 hours ago Susie.....yes, that is likely correct. From what I can tell, your son just arrived this past Tuesday for MCT, right?! Aside from the "natural" issues of not being able to see him, that will be the week (including the 2nd weekend at MCT) where they are out in the field. As you might see on other posts in this thread, he may get liberty this weekend where you would likely hear from him, but that second weekend you will not when they are out in the field.
Comment by susie 14 hours ago May 29 - June 2, Monday - Saturday my job is making me go to San Diego for a meeting. Friends can't believe I'm not going to try an connect with my son.
I'm sure there is no way I can see him during the week at CP. Correct......?????

Comment by chelemybelle yesterday For the first day of liberty this Sunday, any idea of how long that liberty usually is?
Comment by HawkRaptorMom (Linda) yesterday Right, a paperback book is a good idea. I was more thinking about when they travel to their MOS school, since that is where my son is now. MCT goes by pretty quickly. :-)
Comment by Scott R on Wednesday well since I haven't gone through MCT (this was added to the training after I served) I don't exactly know if they have time to read either - but knowing the Marine Corps as I do i would be extremely surprised if they DIDN’T have the opportunity to read while at MCT. Especially when they’re sleeping in the squadbay and not in the hills – again this isn’t bootcamp! I personally kept something to read in my cargo pocket at all times since there’s a lot of waiting in the Marines - first you hurry up and get somewhere then you wait
As to the kindle – it’s not a good idea at MCT since personal electronics are taken away and only given to them at certain times and at the discretion of their Officers and SNCOs. I expect after a tough week in the field and returning home... if they’re lucky enough to get their phone, the very last thing they would use it for would be to read a book with. Not that I’m expecting a phone call but I know he’ll be on the phone with his girlfriend or facebook etc. Don’t worry mom you’re son will have no trouble carrying around a paperback book – if he chooses to do so. Whether they take the time to read them is another debate but perhaps if they have a book available it may increase the chance they’ll read it.
You know that they don’t take all of their gear with them in the field right? They have lockers in the squadbay where they will leave some of their gear, dress uniforms etc. They only carrying what’s required to accomplish the mission and perhaps a paperback book
Comment by HawkRaptorMom (Linda) on Wednesday Thanks for the list though, I sent it to my son. He can add them to his Kindle, a much better way for them to read without adding baggage. Most of them should have Kindle on their smart phones, I would think.
