The last weekend before graduation is very busy - final tests, hike, preparing for graduation, checking in gear, etc.

See this member's experience last year. Allow time to get the base pass.

Travel safe... enjoy!! :) My congrats to your Marine and thanks for serving,

I registered for the L.I.N.K.S as well for the 14th, I feel it will be very beneficial.  Heading to hotel on this Saturday, getting excited, plus it's my Marine's Birthday.....OOHRAH!!! Just a little disappointed that I didn't hear from him this weekend.  :(

There's a new live chat on the main page and follows you to each group you visit too. Tracy, the founder of MFN is trying this new chat out to see how everyone likes it.

This new chat feature is for everyone (recruit families as well as Marine families) and will be available for specified hours during the day.

Check out this link to Tracy's blog that is requesting your input too!

You can minimize to get it out of your way in the groups if you want or click to join in.  So you can access in your groups or on the main page of MFN!

Give it a try!:)

If you're able to go, and if your Marine's PDS is Camp LeJeune, I highly recommend going to graduation. We went up Tues. night so that we could attend the LINKS program from 10:30-2:30 on Wed. It's for family members and is very educational, particularly for families who are new to the Corps. You can find a link to LINKS on the MCCSLEJEUNE website.
We were able to take our son to dinner that night. The following day we got to spend 30 min.s with him before graduation and met some of his friends. While he was busy after grad,we arranged for a meeting with the Family Readiness Officer. She will be the main point of contact from now on. About 30 family members attended. The FRO shared a lot of good info, answered our questions and introduced us to the commanding officers. I found it reassuring to see how much these people care about the safety and growth of the Marines they lead.
Weekend liberty started Friday afternoon for his unit, but this varies widely, and we weren't even sure we could count on them getting liberty. We stayed in Wilmington for the weekend, and I think our Marine enjoyed the break. In a nutshell, if your Marine is staying at Camp a LeJeune and you can go for a few days, it's worthwhile.

Most families and parents miss this graduation from SOI mainly because there's not much time to spend with your Marine and/or live too far away. The graduation is so short and the new graduates leave soon after for their next assignment (their PDS).
There really isn't a family day either... not like the awesomeness you experienced at the boot graduation.
Marines do understand. :)
Hopefully you can prepare some time to visit at his PDS.

What a great gesture Lulunola! Safe travels for you. Love our big Marine family here!!:)

When you find out your Marine's PDS, join these discussion groups too!
Your Marines will be assigned to one of the division units.

And the PDS groups too:
