My son turned 21 at boot camp back in April. They made him do 21 pushups while all the others sang Happy Birthday, for every card he received! He enjoyed it though.

My son had his 18th birthday at boot camp he said it sucked because he didn't want to tell anyone then he got a ton of cards from friends and family

Good, now I can talk about this morning (I hope).  (And just in case this isn't clear, James is our new Marine, Tom is my husband and James' dad.)

My husband texted me when he got to the spot where he was supposed to meet them this morning.  It was earlier than *I* would have liked to be up, but I expected that.  He also was texting me and sending pictures (dark, blurry ones!) throughout the morning.

My husband said he got to walk up behind the platoons with the Battalion CO (commanding officer) and Sgt Major.  He said he felt guilty looking all clean in his fresh cammies when they all looked so filthy dirty from the last few days.  :)

He met and shook hands with James' DIs and spoke with his senior DI for a few moments.  My husband thanked them for their hard work and the senior bragged on James a bit.  We parents always like to hear good things about our kids, right?

Before he left, one of James' platoon-mates approached Tom and thanked him for James being there and that James was a good friend to him.  (And all the Mommies say, "Awww!!")

Being able to go to this is NOT usual.  My husband is still an active duty Marine which played a large part in his being able to go this morning.  Our son's recruiters were actually the ones to suggest it since we knew way back when James DEP'ed in that Tom would be in the middle of a planned exercise and wouldn't be able to make it to boot camp graduation.  I just wanted to mention that in case anyone was wondering why they weren't invited.  (I am still so jealous that my husband hugged him first!!  *grin*)

A prayer to go with your new Marines as they continue on this journey.....

I held him as an infant;
I hugged him as a boy
and through the years he has become
my greatest pride and joy.
