Hi Susan! .....and those MarineParents visitors are looking forward to being there! :) I will be bringing some random OperationPAL cards to hand out while I'm there and have a list of people I hope we can hook up with.

I know it will be a memorable experience and I hope we bring some good cheer to some very deserving people.

What a wonderful gift that will be. Very practical and right on time for when they need the items.

We're looking forward to giving out the attractive and useful new PHFS tote bags with journals and pens, along with the Wounded Warrior Resource Books, business card holders, and a 3-CD set called Coming Home from War: War and the Family. Thank you MP headquarters for providing all these materials for the families of the wounded.

I had an amazing time with our Wounded Warriors dinner last Thursday night.  We had some special guests.  A retired Marine drill instructor, a Navy Cross recipient, and a Chaplain.  Dinner was delish thanks to Joyce Orrell.  Barbecue Brisket, Scalloped Potatoes and Salad.  Holly Watson made a Southern cake just to die for.  The smell of the barbecue beef brought a lot of hungry Marines and Saliors to the Liberty Center.

But, the best part was going over to the hospital and serving seven new Wounded Warriors.  This was my first time going to the hospital.  I usually serve in the barracks where most of our service people live.  A week ago, some of them were in Afghanistan.  Today they are here.  Some have their parents or girlfriends with them.  Others face these days alone. Thankfully, they have each other for support. My heart wanted to wrap my arms around them and give them a hug and a kiss--tell them "it's all better now".  Just like I would say to my children when they were little. The sad part :-( I can't make it better.  Gave a mother a hug, prayed for God's heart of compassion and gave some words of encouragement along with a homemade meal.  Could not have been a better day :-)

We will be posting an official report soon about our PHFS East dinner on Sept 4 at Bethesda. Our volunteers served dinners and to more families than ever before (due to the Walter Reed merger). The Marine patients and their families are mainly on the fourth floor now, although the conference room that we serve from remains the one on the fifth floor for now, so we will be trying creative ways to make sure we reach our Marine families. If you know anyone by name whom we should be looking for, let us know. We will be there again on Sept. 18.

BETHESDA, Md., Aug. 27, 2011 – Officials here at the National Naval Medical Center declared a new chapter in military health care as a procession of ambulances delivered the last 18 inpatients from Walter Reed Army Medical Center this morning, a final milestone as the two flagship hospitals consolidate.

Merger of Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital is being completed today, a day early due to Hurricane Irene. Great article with photos in today's Washington Post.
