Just wondering if anyone knows what the process is once a Marine has gone in and asked for help to cope with trouble sleeping?  Which I believe has put him on the list to be evaluated for PTSD?

His appointments are not very often and right now he is on a month long training.

Any insight would be appreciated.

A lot depends on who he's asked for help.  He can always see his unit's chaplain, often without any appointment.  It also depends on what verbage he's used in relating his sleeping issues, as in-- "I can't sleep because I'm having flashbacks," gets immediate treatment, whereas "I can't sleep, not sure why," might not get immediate treatment.

Please relay to him that if he feels he's not being treated appropriately, he can always use the DSTRESS hotline, .  I know you are worried, and you can use this also.

Hope that helps some!

Thats for the response.  I know he has had a couple of appointments which he has missed due to training.  He is waiting to find out if he is going to be allowed to go on the next deployment.  He has been taken off his infantry duties and is doing other things right now, which does not make him very happy.

What do they do for the sleep problem? Drugs, therapy? anyone have a clue?

They might try several things, but to my knowledge they don't usually prescribe sleeping pills.  They might try antihistamines or anti nausea meds that make a person sleepy instead, but that can be found over the counter.  They do try to do some therapy, again, if the Marine is in a place where this is available.
