That is something you should ask your Recruiter. I know from our experience that they didn't talk ship date until after my son was in his 2nd Semester & then because we live in a school distric that cancels classes when 2 flakes of snow get together, he was delayed until Fall. So you see there is alot of different factors that go into a ship date. Mostly it is the needs of the Corp. You will become very familiar with that phrase and also No News Is Good News. Good Luck

My son is also a senior who is the DEP program. When he left MEPS he was given a ship out date of June 2013 on the contract he signed there. When we went to the recruiter to choose his MOS, the recruiter put in to push his date back to August 2013. Good luck to your son. Will he be going to San Diego or PI? My son will be in San Diego.

My son's was June of 2013, but now it is July 2013 and he will be going to Paris Island. Good luck to your son as well!

It is not uncommon for ship dates to change many times while others seem to stay the same.  It will all depend on when your son's job is available.  My son's date has gone from October 2012 to August 2012 to July 2012, back to October 2012 to December 2012 back to October 2012 to September 2012 (for about 10 mintues) and now is back to October (9th).  He entered DEP in March 2012.  The new job list comes out October 1st for the fiscal year so we'll see what that has to offer and if his ship date stays in October or is moved out.  I'm told this can be typical but it's very hard to handle.

My son was given the date of June 17, 2013. It is going to be a loooong 8+ months!

My son is also set to ship to San Diego in August. We've been told August 5th.

My son is also still in high school but was given a ship date of June 10 2013 for PI.

My Son is high school as well ,He was given a ship date of August 19th, 2013 to PI. However he was told that be earlier or later by a month

My son is a senior in high school...when he went to MEPS, his contract stated that his ship date is August 12, 2013. Won't be too long because he graduates in May so then we got 3 months until he ships

I hope that you all have a wonderful time with your Pooles until they ship. Makes sure to take lots of picture so you have reminders of fun things to send him when he is in Boot Camp.

My son is also a Senior in high school, is in the DEP program and has his MOS. His ship date is August 19th. to SD. Hopefully they won't change his date.  He told me when he was 8 years old this is what he wanted to do with his life. I don't think August can get here fast enough for him.  Me, on the other hand am savoring every moment with him.

This will be my second time around and believe me...ship date is only an idea. My  first son shipped 3 months early with 2 days notice.  It was the needs of the Corp.  It also depends on how ready your Poolee is compared to others in your local recruiting station.  Jobs are another factor that can move the date.  A good rule of thumb is just be ready when called and Moms, trust me the less notice the better. Good byes are extremely hard especially when it's your kid. I hardly knew what hit me!! Now a 2nd son is a Poolee and due to ship in July 2013 to Parris Island.  It is all good, although difficult for me, it is an awesome path for them.
