Can someone please send me a link/info on ordering the coins as I stupidly threw the paper away, and now I am thinking that I would like to purchase them to add to my graduation gift. Thanks in advance to whomever can help me!

zkjmom, I send my recruit a card every week - as does my parents.  These supplement their regular letters.  And I mailed his easter card yesterday with the photo copy of the phone card.  I don't think he got razzed for any of this....

I love the idea of sending the St. Michael coin, Aquamarine.  I'm going to try to do that also!

That helps a lot, mandmsmom!  Now I get it!  I'll order some coins out of the catalog too.

zjkmom: I'm mailing my son a funny Easter card today (bunny with his ears bit off), just to mark the day for him.  I'm sure there will be a lot of recruits getting Easter cards.  My daughter insisted on sending a musical card for my son's recent birthday.  I hope it didn't embarrass him too much! :(

I think St. Michael is the patron saint for the military. I went to a religious store and purchased a St. Michael coin. I'm going to send it to him along with the Crucible prayer. I did it for my other son last year. He put the coin in his breast pocket and kept it with him during the Crucible. I just had to do it for this son too. I still can't believe I'm talking about the Crucible. Sometimes it seems like they just left and sometimes it seems like they've been gone forever!!!

Thanks mandmsmom.  My son will be missed this Easter, but I told him we would celebrate in a few weeks!

Petesmom, I can't give you too much info on the coins.  It's more just a symbolic/tradition thing.  I ordered the batallion coins (that came in the flyer we got regarding graduation) because they weren't online and I thought they would be a good commemoration.  In theory, they carry a coin with them, and can be "challenged" to produce it.  More a fun thing though... say they are at a bar and a senior officer asks to see their coin, they don't have it, they buy the drinks.  FROM WHAT I AM TOLD.  I have not experienced this yet, so can't swear by it.  I'm sure someone else can tell you more.  Can't help with St. Michael, I don't know my saints :(

zjkmom, send the Easter card!  Unless it's a singing card, it shouldn't draw any attention to him.  It's the same as his regular mail - it is private unless a DI thinks there is something in it he is not supposed to have (like food, etc.).  That's why they open any bulky envelopes/packages IN FRONT of the DIs.  But if it's just a flat letter he will probably read it himself, privately so no razzing.  My son told me he reads a lot in the head :)  Not sure I needed to know that, but I guess it's when he has time, lol!

No letter here either.  I am starting to understanding the whole mailman stocking thing.  I was going to send my son an Easter card...good idea, bad?  I don't want him getting razzed too much.

No letter here still.  Maybe today!  Question for the group:  people are talking about getting coins.  Can someone explain the coins to me?  Also, is St. Michael the patron saint for Marines?
