An Outreach Program of MarineParents.com
Every year, the 4th Sunday in September is set aside to honor our country's Fallen Heroes and to show our support for their families.
Please consider taking the pledge to light some luminaries at your home on this evening.
Gold Star Family Day: September 25, 2016
During boot camp the platoons perform requirements which need to be passed before they can graduate and become Marines. Each Drill Competition, Practical Exam, Rifle Range, and PFT (Physical Fitness Test) is not only a way to test a recruits progress it is also a competition among all the platoons of the entire company which can be from 4 to 8 platoons. The platoon who has the highest scores in the majority of the competitions wins the Honor Platoon competition.
There is also a competition among recruits for Honor Graduate. This is the recruit who has performed at the highest level, earned among the highest scores and qualifications, and above all shown outstanding leadership among his fellow recruits. The Platoon Honor man will compete against the other Platoon Honor men in his series which is usually 2 - 4 platoons. (There are usually two series within a recruit training company, a lead series and a follow series). The two Honor men who come out on top in their respective series will then compete for Company Honor man.
This is in no way meant to be a slight to any other recruits because all who graduate will earn the most coveted title of United States Marine.
