Hi, my son is current in at NAS Jacksonville, Florida for C school. MOS 6072. when he was in NAS Pensacola for A school, I found a group support NAS Pensacola while he is there. After he moved to Jacksonville. I couldn't find any group support. Therefore, I stay in that group waiting for him. I joint this group yesterday. Hope to find some support from Marines family here . Thanks !

I'd like to ask the group for some guidance.

My son is waiting to class up and has been bumped several times and he is now the last in the group that arrived together to be waiting. He is not scheduled to class up until August, so he basically has to wait around for three months.

He worked with his recruiting office to request an RA assignment back home while he waits, but just learned that his request was denied. Just before he left Pensacola he was asked to assist in setting up and break down a road race. All who participated got recognition and some volunteer points, except him. Somehow he was overlooked and since it was his last day in Pensacola he felt he couldn't pursue it. Until he completes his next training he is not in the fleet and believes he cannot talk to a career advisor about his situation. He is getting very down on his situation feeling he is repeatedly getting the short end of the stick. I have suggested that he go speak with his sergeant, but he doesn't see the point of it.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel that he is wasting a lot of time just sitting around doing virtually nothing for three months and I know it would drive me nuts if I was in that situation. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hope your Marine is liking Japan. Have you seen the Okinawa PDS group?

Or is he MCAS Iwakuni? http://marinefamilynetwork.com/group/mcasiwakuni

Cherrilee.  It was the needs of the USMC.  Class delays pushed him out of helicopter mechanic and into GSE.  He was okay with it though as he classed up quicker and was able to get out of Pensacola!  He's happy with it. In C school they will get to put choice preferences for PDS although that doesn't mean they will get it.  My son went to Cali for a while and is now in Japan

Keri - thank you as well.  I know my son is studying electronics and combustion engines right now. I just tell him to study hard and do his best, he could be AE strand, that could be what is happening, he did say he will be assigned to east or west coast depending. I don't know how it happened that he ended up ground support.  But, he is happy, I just want to know if he has options afterwords.  I want him to be able to have a few choices, or move around if he can.

Thank you again Darlene, I think that my son is Aviation Ground Support as well.  So far as I can tell he will go to C school in Jacksonville FL, but when he choose his MOS he choose fixed wing, but at some point, at boot camp he came to realize that his MOS was not fixed wing but actually ground support - I didn't learn until just recently that he was not fixed wing. He said something about 6000 - I don't understand what happened.  Did your son like ground support?

Cherrilee, no problem.  My son went to C school in Jacksonville FL  Aviation ground support there is no I or O that I am aware of.  That is for aviation mechanic area.

Here is some older posts on I. O and AE strands.

This is more specific on the types of strands.

..."O strand (fixes electronics on the aircraft or replaces what they can't fix), I strand (fixes what O strand can't fix, works in the "shop"), or AE strand, (learns both, and gets assigned to either I or O at completion of A school; depending on the needs of the Corps) Once A school is completed, they move on to C school, which can be east coast or west coast, depending on the platform (fixed wing or rotary, and more specificallly which aircraft) to which they are assigned...."
