Congratulations on your Daughter! I was at graduation in July. Make sure your daughter gets you on the list at the entrance, otherwise its a nightmare trying to get in the day of. They barely recognize that there is a school of music on the base and dont make things easy for you. Good luck and have fun :)

Heard from my daughter yesterday that she passed another bench-mark!  Her F2 is scheduled for April 21, and if that goes well then she'll graduate on April 25th.  Does anybody have any experience with going to the graduation ceremony?

Wow am I going senile!  amers4, thank you so much for the explanation of F1 and such!  I swear my brain has taken to shutting down and not letting me know!  Thanks to your Marine for his service.  Have a great day!

Hi Everyone,

Tuck just started classes last Wednesday. He had his incoming audition on Monday and did very well... he said his instructors said they were VERY pleased!! I'm SO proud of him!!

We haven't had a chance to talk to him since he started classes... BUT I know he's very busy!! I'm hoping he'll call us after he get a full week in so he can explain it all to us!!

Have a wonderful Presidents Day!!

TTY'all Later,

It's been almost 2 years since my daughter was at the SOM but I think you summed it up very well, amers4 (Amy)!  I know that if they do not pass their F1 and F2 that they are given more intense help and more 1-on-1 time with instructors so that they have a better chance at passing the next time.  From what I have heard, few have been "kicked out" of the school and it takes a lot for that to happen,  If I remember correctly if they fail their F1 or F2 they go back to (I can't think of what it is called) the status they had when they first arrived where they cannot leave the base and don't have all the priveledges, which I think is so they concentrate on their music.

From what I have learned in conversations with my son, F1 is like their mid-term exam. They have Benchmark 1 and 2, then F1, then Benchmark 3 and 4, and finally F2.  My son just passed his second benchmark.  I think they are tests/auditions with their primary instrument instructor, with scales, prepared pieces, sight reading, etc.  I believe these tests are about once a month (or they have been so far). James got there just before Thanksgiving and after waiting around to get picked up by a class and then the holidays, his first benchmark was in January and second benchmark was this week.  I can't remember the grades and how they work (they are numbers like 2.3 or 3.1) but there is a minimum grade needed to graduate. Maybe some of the more "experienced" parents here can give better details. Hope that helped!

Good morning Keri,

One of the Moms in our new group Friends/Family of Delta/Papa was wondering what the term F1 means in regard to testing/auditions.
