It's close to the Burger King. Beyond that it's the way to go if you are planing a day or two stay. Ft Meade is very confusing and you are only allowed in at one gate unless you have a military ID card. Whatever you do, do not make the mistake and go to an NSA gate. Therefore it's best to stay on base. The rooms are clean but dated. The people that work there are great. If we ever have the need to stay there again for a day or two I would go there without a doubt. We had our Marine walk there and set it up for us.

Hey Everyone! Can anyone give me info concerning the on-base hotel at Fort Meade. Thanks so much! Have a great day! :)

This wait time is a good opportunity to do the admin part of their Marine career like the MCI courses. These courses count towards points for promotion. The subjects of courses are pertinent to being a Marine but also practical courses like Personal Finance. There are also courses that apply to their particular MOS field too.

Thanks for the info. Her mos is combat camera specialist. She likes to keep busy so hopefully she will have something to do until september.

From what I understand they won't be reimbursed for college while they are still in innital training. I'm sure she could pay for her own online courses. That's a good idea if for nothing else then to keep her busy doing something for her. Also I'm hearing that Public Affairs (PA) MOS 43xx and Combat Camera (ComCam) MOS 46xx are possibly going to combine forces. That would mean a revamping of the two fields and training.

Just curious, but my daughter has been at Ft Meade for 2 weeks and they still won't allow them to check in. Guess I'm just wondering why. Also she was told her classes don't start till sept. Will she be allowed to take some college classes online in the meantime?

Just mom, you could visit. They can even ride with you in your car. They cannot ride in another students car. In fact you could stay at the on-base hotel. Your Marine would love this. I just would not leave your car there.

Keri and big dad, thanks for the info! I guess I will not be taking a road trip! Lol it's probably best that they don't have one!

No car allowed. Earlier this year there was a Marine who did bring a car and that Marine and the others who drove in the car all were severely disciplined. Your Marine will be told all of the rules. The problem here is some of the other branches allow vehicles. So it stands to reason that no body will find out. This temptation is what will start a new Marine with a Non Judicial Punishment (NJP). The Marine Corps is held to a higher standard then the other branches. To a young person this might seem unfair. It's your part to encourage them to stay focused as Marines.
