My Marine graduates from MCT-East today.  His orders are for MOS 3521 school (Motor T Mechanic) at Camp Johnson, NC.

Does anybody have any information on whether there will be a delay before he starts classes?  If there's a delay, what's you best guess as to how long the delay will be?

Thanks for any info!

Many schools do not start a new class every week so what some term a back up is in reality just the norm for that school.
It is very common for MOS schools to be backed up...all schools.

There may be plenty for your Marine to do. Some MOS schools may have 'working parties' Marines can sign up for and be assigned certain duties around the base (needs of the Corps). What Marines do depends on command and can be different from school to school. My son had to wait for about three months before classing up. He kept busy with guard duty, LOTS of PTing, taking MCI classes and doing maintenance (picking up lots of leaves), etc. He could also frequent the gym more. This is one thing my son missed after classes started because there was just no time for the gym. This wait time is a good opportunity to do the admin part of their Marine career like the MCI courses. In these times of waiting it's a good time to work on these things when training and class would not be occupying all of their time. MCI classes are online classes Marines take on various subjects. They also help in promotions too.
There is also the MCMAP (martial arts) Marines can work on too to advance their belt although this may not be offered at some schools, again a command decision.
I think all Marines need to do is ask if any classes are offered or if they can volunteer for any work duties. All this is new to new Marines and they may not think to ask.

Congrats to your Marine and my best wishes as he learns to adapt to the wait while at MOS school. Waiting is a part of training too. :) They are learning patience.

My son is currently holding at Camp Johnson for school to be picked up. He arrived 2/21/17 after finishing MCT... He told me yesterday the latest date he's been told that he will be picked up is 7/18/17....
