Where is your marine? Ours is at MCT east and said even though he is heading to 29Palms next week, his MOS is delayed 3 months.  I am assuming from your picture you are a new mom, so congrats!

My marine is at mct west. I wonder if he'll be delayed 3 months as well...

And yes, I am! Thank you :)

My bf graduates on the 7th, so I wonder if he must wait till sept or wait 3 months like Melanie.

My husband graduates MCT August 14th but has to stay at Camp Pendleton until September before he can go to his MOS 0651 in 29 palms.

It is very common for MOS schools to be backed up...all schools.  My son had to wait for about 3 months before classing up.  He kept busy with guard duty, LOTS of PTing, taking classes, doing maintenance (raking leaves), etc.  Many schools do not start a new class every week, so what some term a back up is in reality just the norm for that school.

If they are supposed to go to their MOS at 29Palms, but it's backed up, would they ever get stationed elsewhere, like Pendleton before their school starts?  I guess we'll know on the 7th when they get on a plane to CA, right?!

My bf told me if his recruiter here in Hawaii could possibly give him some RA if there is a break. I'm hoping he could come back here for that so he can at least spend some time with our son before going away again. I'm not even sure how long this school is... I've heard many different answers.

And I think they're taking a bus to 29palms?

My son graduated from MCT on April 10 and stayed at Camp Pendleton for a month before he was sent to 29 Palms. It was another month before he started classes after that. From what I understand, they usually don't give them RA between MCT/ITB and MOS. At Pendleton, he did a lot of fire watch and guard duty.

Lori is correct that RA is not granted between SOI (MCT/ITB) and MOS. This may be the reason for remaining at CP for guard duty.

RA is a two part process. The MOS school has to allow it and the recruiter has to have a need. Once at MOS school your Marine should be able find out if it is allowed (a command decision) then he can contact his recruiter and see if there is a need.

You can look into your Marine's MOS school in the What's After Boot' page. Just scroll down to Field 06 then 0651.  http://www.whatsafterboot.com/mos.asp

While my bf was on his 10 day leave + extra 7 days of RA, his recruiter told him if he can prove he's a help around the office, he'll have a better chance of being able to come back before mos. IF there is a gap.

My husband started his classes on June 18 and is,set to graduate October 23rd. So that gives you the time frame. My husband was told he couldn't apply for RA but his wait time was only 3 weeks.

Wow... so 19 weeks?

Yes, but there was a 96 hour liberty for the 4th of July, and there will be liberty for labor day in September. So the time frame could slightly vary.
