Hi. My son is at LAX as I type this waiting to fly out to Camp Johnson to begin his MOS school.  When will he find out if the school is backed up? We have been doing some research on the length of school and have found some differences. I found 21 days online and he found 35 days.  Any info would be great to what is correct.

Delays at MOS schools are common and the length of delay can change weekly. You Marine will not know if there is a delay, and the length, until he reports and goes through indoc. I do not know how long the school is, maybe another member will be able to let you know what their Marine experienced
Thank you for your info. My son had a very difficult time with his fellow Marines yesterday traveling from California to NC.  They had two flights with one being very delayed last night. He posted on facebook that they had all just arrived in Wilmington at 10:30 and there was no USO office. They had a one hour trip to Camp Johnson and 1 1/2 hrs to get there to checkin.  I still haven't heard anything so I'm not sure what is going on with him. Hope all went well.

Hello Richard,

It's appearing that my son will be arriving at Camp Lejeune on November 9 for his MOS of Marine Landing Specialist.  My question is whether it is typical for those in classes like these to be given Thanksgiving holiday off on liberty.  If so, it is worth if for me to fly across the country to spend even just that one day with him.  I'm actually hoping he will have the Friday afterwards and the weekend.  Is there any way to find out the answer to these type of questions on any website or by contacting someone who handles that MOS at Camp Lejeune?  Thank you Richard.

Travel is a personal decision. Most MOS schools it seems close for Thursday, Friday and the weekend for Thanksgiving. If your Marine knows you are going to be there he can probably request liberty.

Thank you Richard.  I got to spend 4 - 5 hours with my son, Alex, at LAX yesterday as he waited for his 10:40pm flight.  We took a cab to a local fun place and had lots of food! :)... I think he will have time off on Thanksgiving so I am flying out there.  Do many parents come on this site too during MOS training.  I only see one post?  Just curious if things start to fall back a bit as they get to this stage...

as the Marines move to the various schools and in to the fleet discussions slow down. Have you checked out the group for your home state?

and this group is just a bunch of crazy moms

hmmm... I think I'll opt for the latter link -- somehow I think I fit into that category nicely!   Thanks Richard and Happy Veteran's Day to you!

No additional chage to join multiple groups, and who knows you might find you have a neighbor who is also supporting a Marine. It happend in the Utah group member who were only three blocks apart and did not know it.

My son is currently at MCT Camp Lejeune, waiting to be picked up.  His pick up date was originally the 15th of November, but due to numbers, it was changed to the 29th.  That puts his graduation on the 27th of December.  He is going to Camp Johnson for MOS, 0411.  Does anyone know if they will get time off for the holidays or is it report to school and start classes?

We are from east central Florida.

Hi Diesel, my son is currently at MCT Camp Pendleton, He is suppose to graduate 12/6 and his MOS is also 0411. Still not sure if there will be any delays or if he will go straight to Camp Johnson. I am from California. Our sons may end up in school together.

Hey, FCmom!  My son is scheduled to graduate from MCT 12/27.  He is still trying to find out if his MOS will be opened or closed that week (for the holidays).  There are rumors going around that his MCT graduation date has been changed to 12/23, but nothing official as of yet.  My son's name is Chris.

Hello ladies, my son, Alex, is set to graduate from his MOS 0411 on December 20th.  Usually they will give them liberty if they have classes that fall over the holidays.  That was my experience with my son.  They gave him a 96 hour liberty over thanksgiving.  He had to fill out paperwork to get special liberty to travel, but it all worked out great.  Keeping my prayers going for you that you'll both see your sons over the holidays...
