Marine Moms Café

The MMCafé is a central hangout for all moms (and others) of Marines and is not restricted to just former Hotel Co. members.  Chartered by the moms of Hotel Co., MCRD SD, Oct. 21, 2011, who found during boot that a joy shared is doubled and a sorrow shared is halved, this group offers a central location for camaraderie and support for family members of Marines.
Drop by and share a cup of coffee with us.

Welcome, justamamma!
I'm so glad you joined this fun group...I was gonna send you here myself! :) This has been such a great place for "pearls of wisdom"!
I've been thinking about your son today...and you, too!

Liberty Belle - I appreciate your comment about the DIs not liking the girlfriend thing.  This helps me understand some stuff right now.  I didn't know that.  (even though our Marine graduated from boot camp 11-2014)  There is something to be said about focus.

Hi rt techer! It sounds as if this lifestyle is working well for your son and his happy for you!
Thanks, too, for sharing about your son leaving a'll certainly be interesting to see what happens on this end :)
And you're right, He most certainly does work mysteriously!! :)
Take care!

Liberty Belle, Thanks.  Im afraid my son would feel lost without the Marines.  He and his wife have discussed their future at length.  I think she is getting out in a year so she will be able to be home with the young ones and go to college. He is learning new things so as long as he is learning I'm ok with him staying in.  I think he found his niche.  Trigirl53,  the hardest thing for me to see was my son leaving behind his girlfriend of three years.  But now looking back ,He and His wife  are better suited for each other and their expectations.  (they met as Poolies).  God doe work in mysterious ways.:)

No snow for us here, but it is colder here where we are than for our son in Colorado. LOL
Yes, I am thankful my son got registered for college classes after sitting out a semester, and I think he feels good about getting that ball rolling.
I caught your mssg about the bootcamp fitness camp on the front page feed. If you're interested in doing that, let me know. I'm getting ready to start another round of eating right/reg exercise. I'll join you on our fitness page here if you're still looking for a workout pal. Stay safe!

Hi Liberty Belle! Great to hear from you :) Do you have much snow? We've definitely gotten our share!
Thanks, too, for your'll be interesting to see how things do turn out, in the days leading up to his departure :)
Good for your Marine getting those classes under his belt- he sounds super-focused! Hoping that his overseas plans come together for him!
Take good care-and stay warm!

rt techer! Congrats on another grandbaby to love. :) And best wishes on the next leg of the USMC journey. There are def some things my son misses about it.

trigirl53,  To answer the first question, my son has enrolled in a nearby college and is working on knocking out his basics. He's pursuing a bachelor's in info tech which he hopes will give him some oppty to work overseas. Being in Japan for most of his enlistment has given him a taste for travel.  :)   As for tying up loose ends, my son was ready to cut the ties and be off on an adventure, so we really didn't deal with that issue too much.  If you're speaking of a girlfriend, he will be discouraged by his DIs to continue any relationship like that as they will say that being a Marine and girlfriends are not a good match. And, as you probably would guess, there are some gf's whose devotion does not make it through boot camp, and some who do continue to love and support their recruit==>Marine.   Stay safe and warm! Hope you are not getting slammed too hard w/ this weather.

thank you, Keri.  I am sorry - the pace of life right now is dizzying...thank you again.  I wish we could all sit together in front of a fire and sip hot chocolate and chat away!!

Good (very snowy!) morning, moms!
I'm looking for some thoughts about the best way to help our poolees begin to transition into the journey ahead...perhaps some things that you've tried that worked ( and perhaps didn't?) My son is working on "tying up loose ends" with others, which has worked in some cases, and in others, not...which has been frustrating for him...and yes, hard for me to watch. I know that things will turn out as they are meant to and he'll grow into a new understanding...
We have about 6 months before he leaves for Basic...
Thanks for being here!
Stay warm and safe....
