MarineParents: Marine Family Network (MFN)

An Outreach Program of

It might be late but I decided to join this forum. My son is in Alpha Company and will be graduating in 3 weeks. Can't believe -time flies so quick !  I'm really looking forward to seeing my son and am proud of him for his accomplishment. But to be honest, I still have mixed feelings about him being a future marine. I know I should be happy for him. I'm very sorry if my post disturb you.

It is ok to have mixed feelings, lot of us parents have them. As you learn more about the training processes, i hope it will allay some of your fears. Do you know what MOS you rct has chosen?

Have you had contact with other parents from his plt? There is a dinner for the families at the Bay View Restaurant on the Wed before graduation. your son's DIs will be there if at all possible. It could be an opportunity for you to speak of your concerns.

Hi Alex,  Thank you very much for your comment. Every time I watch a video of the training, it makes me realize that how strong and tough these young men and women have to be during the camp both in physically and mentally, and surprise me is my son is one of them.  He will be in aviation work but I don't know exactly what he will be.  Yes, that'd be a great idea to contact with other parents from the same plt. and definitely I'll try that. And I might be joining the dinner since I'm in SD.

Thank you, again -it's so nice to have someone to talk to !

Here is a link that gives the particulars about the dinner.

And yes, having a willing ear, a shoulder for comfort are things we as people need. And no one needs them more than the parent of a child in the military.
