As a family we are huge supporters of helping the animals. Volunteer at the local animal shelter. Another idea is a Veterans home, homeless shelter. The ideas are endless!

My son just arrive at his PDS the beginning of November. Will he have to work Friday after Thanksgiving? Now that he is back on the west coast it would be nice for him to come home for a weekend. Leave Thurs. and return Sun? I understand he doesn't have any vacation due to the month off after bootcamp.

Probably one of the difficult parts of having a Marine stationed far away from home is missing their presence at certain holidays.
I can't say whether or not your Marine will get leave for this holiday. Liberty and leave is always a command decision.

Leave is the equivalent of paid vacation in the civilian world. While on leave a Marine can travel as he pleases according to the USMC's guidelines. Liberty is roughly equivalent to a civilian having time off from a job such as not having to work on weekends or holidays.
When a Marine is on liberty he is not on vacation and could be called back in to work if he is needed. For that reason Marines can't travel outside of a certain mile radius while on liberty.

Marines need to request leave or 'time off' and it's command's decision whether to grant this leave.

It's these times you learn to adapt.. set up a Skype at dinner time so his face would be at the table. There will be tines he can come home (hopefully Christmas) and these are the times you begin building memories.

Hoping for the best, (((hugs))) from one MoM!
