Hi! So for anyone that lives on base with their husband or wife, about how much is your rent? My husband and I have no kids and we're told we will probably get a one bedroom house on base. Does anyone know about how much that'll be a month?!

Thanks guys!

I think for my son it was $1200. But they lived in a one bedroom apt.

If you live on base your entire BAH is deducted for your rent and utilities.  For E-4 and below, BAH in Camp Pendleton is currently $1725.  If you have no children, you would rate a 1 or 2 bedroom. I believe the only 1 bedrooms do come with a monthly refund of $600. Basically, $1725/month would be deducted from your husband's pay and then at the end of the month you get $600 back from the housing agency. I believe there are also some 2 bedroom units with a refund of $400-$500/month as well.

Most of the housing on Camp Pendleton is managed by Lincoln Military Housing and one neighborhood is managed by DeLuz Family Housing. I'm sure you can find their pages with more details and floor plans.

1725? I guess that's not too bad since we get 600 back. Definitely doesn't leave us a lot for everything else. Bit I thing it's all worth it! There's no cheaper rent?

Not on base.  In fact $1125/month for rent in the Camp Pendleton area is extremely reasonable. That does include utilities although if you use too much electricity you pay the extra.

I noticed that you recently posted about MOS school.  Are you sure your Marine will get stationed at Camp Pendleton?

He has a good chance. We're hoping. But I don't really care where we end up. Why?

1125 or 1725?? Big difference haha

I just ask because BAH varies a lot from place to place. It's set up to cover average rental costs for the area.  For example BAH in Camp Pendleton is more than twice what you'd get in 29 Palms. For junior Marines, BAH is approximately the cost of a 2 bedroom apartment including utilities and renters insurance.

I don't think I explained the Camp Pendleton situation very well.  BAH is $1725.  If he's stationed in Camp Pendleton, he would get that amount every month. If you live on base that same amount is also deducted from his pay. However, if you live in a one bedroom, you'd also get $600 back, so your total cost would be $1125.
