MarineParents: Marine Family Network (MFN)

An Outreach Program of MarineParents.com

Good evening, I have a question and would like some feed back if at all possible! Later this year I will be moving with my husband who is stationed at Camp Pendleton. We want to live off of base, yet close enough that he doesn't have a far drive into work and reasonably(?!?) affordable.(don't we all!) I know that he is actively looking into apartments that he has either heard about or seen, but I would like some suggestions of places that have worked out well for others. Is anyone living or lived near base that could point me towards areas?? He is in the south part of base, near the main gate. Thanks!!!!

Wish I could help but we are on base. You definitely want insight cause there are bad areas with gangs.

My son and his wife live at The Timbers in Oceanside. Oceanside is the closest to main gate so I would start in Oceanside.

Have you checked out the Automated Housing Referral Network?  It's a website maintained by the Department of Defense which lists rentals that have been checked out by the housing office.  It has a really good search tool so you can specify location, amenities, and price.

When we were searching, our options were pretty limited because we have a medium-sized dog. We found a place we like in Oceanside near the Mission which is fairly close to the San Luis Ray gate.  We also looked at a few in Vista in the Shadowridge area, but that's a little farther away.

Thanks ladies! =) I certainly will check out the automated housing referral network, sounds interesting!
