Comment by Betz on June 5, 2013 at 11:33am Someone sent me an e-mail to let me know that they have a son at Iwakuni who is a MP. Could that person e-mail me again? I would love to chat with you

Comment by Betz on May 23, 2013 at 10:00am I'm just curious of any of the parents on this comment wall have a MP stationed at Iwakuni. My son has only been there for a month now. I'm anxious to hear from anyone who can share what it's been like for their MP.
Comment by 1~VPMofM (Valerie) on April 19, 2013 at 2:02am Technically, a deployment is any temporary movement away from a PDS. So, if your Marine's PDS is in Okinawa, he/she is not "deployed."
More information on deployment can be found on our deployment information pages: http://www.marineparents.com/deployment/terminology.asp

Comment by Rosa on April 18, 2013 at 5:04pm I have a question on deployment. If a marine is at a PDS is that considered deployment? What is considered being deployed. Wondering? Thank you
Comment by ankirk on April 18, 2013 at 10:52am My son has also been in Iwakuni for about 7 months and seems to be good. The facetime app on iphone has been how we mostly communicate.
Comment by Rosa on April 17, 2013 at 2:44pm Hi Betz, I read your comment, I know exactly how you are feeling. It was hard for me to say goodbye too. My son has been over there since Oct 2013. He likes it , no complaints. Just heard from him today, says he's in Okinawa at the range. His PDS is Iwakuni. It will be ok Betz. Hang in there!
Comment by Betz on April 17, 2013 at 9:06am Today my son is leaving for Iwakuni. It's been so great to have him home and yet, I know he is ready to get on with things. He's excited about being stationed at iwakuni for the next 24 months. I'm happy for him but saying goodbye at the airport is going to be tough. I remember being 19, ready for a new life on my own, and wanting to try new things. I just didn't do it sooooooooooo far away.
Yet, my husband and I are planning to go over in a year and tour around with my son. But right now, I just don't want to let go of that last bit of apron string. This mama bird is not ready for the baby bird to take flight. I know it's a natural progression, I just wish I wasn't taking it so hard.
As all of you, I am so proud to have a child that is a Marine. I feel very fortunate that he is part of such a great group. Thank goodness for the MFN. I think I will be on this site a lot just to hear what's going on and to vent. Anyone with a son/dtr new to Iwakuni?
Comment by atcmarinemom (Laura) on March 25, 2013 at 11:55pm Hi Betz,
My son has been in Japan for 21 months...his PDS is Iwakuni, but he was also in Okinawa for about 8 months. He will be heading back stateside in a few months. 'Kuni is a good duty station...your son will surely find much to enjoy. My son has also had lots of fun this winter with snowboarding. Recently he and the guys on his work crew hiked in one of the local recreation areas. There's lots to see and do...they just need to take advantage of it. We keep in touch with Facebook mostly. Sometimes he calls on his iPhone, using Skype's phone service. You'll be amazed how quickly the time goes by. It's always difficult to see them leave, but believe me...your son will be back before you know it! Hang in there!!
