Just a reminder for all you parents who have a Marine EAS-ing this year. The filing for FASA needs to be completed no later than Feb 15th, if you Marine plans on going to school in the 15-16 school year. here is a link to that:     https://fafsa.ed.gov/

They will also need to register with the VA in order to take advantage of their GI Bill. The VA web site also has a list of all schools that the GI Bill may be used at. here is a link for that:    http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/

12 O'Clock High? Combat? Any of those ring a bell? So yeah, I have the map, markers & cave going in my head too. I was just wondering because my son had just completed ITX in Nov. And I know ITX was used as a final training exercise before deployment . BUT I also know that they are scheduled for a UDP sometime this coming year. I was just trying to get a sense for how that worked. I know Units have a rotation and I was just trying to piece together the rhythm of the whole thing. Because for all our talk about Semper Gumby, they usually is a certain rhythm. We may not like the tune it follows and we may want to be the melodic line so we can direct the where it goes, but there is always a rhythm, a sense of order.

Dianne, I know you know it all gets back to "Needs of the Corps."  While I think the MEUs are supposed to be the "first responders" and are strategically placed around the world in order to play that role, if things get really dicey, any Marine, anywhere, is going to go where needed.  I always picture some big room buried in some cavern somewhere, where all the important guys have little models laid out on a big global map, and are saying things like, "OK....if we move these guys there, and we move those guys in behind them and then . . . hmmm, nope, no, that won't work.  OK, let's say we move those guys here, and we put these guys over there.  Yeah, yeah, that could work."  Or did I watch too many movies like "Dr. Strangelove,"  "Mars Attacks" and just about every James Bond movie?  I'm just glad I'm not the one who has to figure that out.

True. I just also know the policy change that occurred with the 31st MEU and I cannot imagine them leaving Okinawa undefended

Personally, I don't think the Corps cares about what your "home" unit is, I think they will care about getting enough boots/planes to the location to handle the mission.

Dianne, apparently we were writing at the same time, but I think my answer may cover it for you.

yes I meant to a combat zone.

And I figured that, Jeff. I also figure that they would deploy in the West Pac area. Because that is what the 3/12 is there for.

Thanks Julie, I meant to ask that same question. However, since they are assigned to backfill the active units in Japan, I guess that if those units becomes tasked with an emergency deploy, the UDP units could be deployed with the rest of the active units.
