It is time dear Marine family and friends, AND to those that have gone before. As the Tradition Began with WD, A Marine Family Parent, just like You and Me, and US. WE HAVE A CLASS that are to Begin the Crucible, that 54 Hour Test that Defines a Marine. As they March into Those Woods, it is up to each of US, To Light a Candle, for it is the single flame within the night that defeats doubt, conquers concern, and brings them back to us....as Marines. During these Next 2 Nights, remember OUR PEOPLE, 3rd Bat. Lima Co., 4th Bat. Papa Co., and Extra Steppers, Graduation 4/25/2014, Parris Island…
For this night, our fine Young People, at 0200 do begin... and WE, Very Proud Marine Parents, Aunts & Uncles, Grandparents, Wives, Husbands, Siblings, Children, and Loved Ones, Together, In Unison, can voice uplifting words for Our Marines in these Troubled Times and in our Troubled World, that they may find
God’s Grace and Esprit de Corps
Strong Will and Fierce Determination
Strength, Health, Honor and Courage
And always, always Good Luck
For it is that Light that comes, on the Dawn of that Third Day, taking that final hump back to the Prize for all that is.....that Shines over New Marines.
For Courage is endurance for one moment more …Unknown Marine Second Lieutenant in Vietnam.
You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth – and the amusing thing about it is that they are. …Father Kevin Kearney, 1st Marine Division Chaplain, Korean War

Willow- very glad your Marine can come home to be with his Grandmother- a very special bond. Yes, that generation has many lessons to share with us- if we would only listen. It's all about respect, courage, commitment, and strength. Prayers for you and your family. May she rest peacefully and may you and your Father find peace in the way she lived her life.
Willow - prayers. You're a great daughter.
Willow...I'm glad he was able to get leave. She sounds like a wonderful lady. My prayers are with all of you during this time.
Willow, Prayers for you and your family.
Mom of 3, Prayers for your Marine and his unit as they deploy. As has been noted, join the groups and keep in touch.
PMG'MA of PFC Kevin
nurse janice, thank you for your advice for Willow.
Wonderful line - about the 1 person who knows. So true.
My son was in C school when his Grandfather died. We postponed the funeral for over a week (we also had just had Hurricane Sandy and didn't have power). He was able to come home for the weekend, which happened to be over Veterans Day- so they let him stay until Tuesday morning. But same thing as LazyK-Chyn said- it's a command decision. They would not have let him come home during the week.
That being said, I am a nurse in an intensive care unit and have spoken with the Red Cross concerning the condition of patients whose relatives are in the military. They usually ask how much longer we think the patient will survive. I always tell them "There is only 1 person who knows and he doesn't share it with me". I tell them "If it were my relative, I would get them home"- depending on their location- in country as opposed to out of country.
Hope this helps. Praying for your parent, your family and your Marine.
