Marine women look back on historic combat experiment

By Gretel C. Kovach | 5 p.m. Sept. 1, 2015

Will the Marine Corps fight to keep women out of the infantry? Female Marines who volunteered for research to help the commandant decide that question are eager to find out, along with many others tracking the contentious debate over women in combat.

I read that in another article. Who would have thought this is where the Slinky started?

Just a fun article on the things we eat that were given their start in the US Military.

10 Food Favorites Invented by the U.S. Military

AUGUST 4, 2015

Anastacia Marx de Salcedo’s new book Combat-Ready Kitchen: How the U.S. Military Shapes the Way You Eat explores how many of the processed foods we buy at the supermarket are prepared using technology and techniques invented by the military to preserve and transport food for troops in battle. The last packing day, so happy to be packing and sending care packages to our deployed troops but sad because this was the last day.
A reunion of pack day families is in the works for November.

Thanks for the interesting facts.  I had the privilege of being in Philadelphia for jury duty this past Tuesday.  I took a walk from the courthouse down Independence Mall to Independence Hall and the surrounding historic structures that the delegates lived in, socialized in and planned our futures.  I had shivers thinking that I was walking on the same grounds that those brave men walked so many years ago- very humbling!

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  Stay safe and fly those flags to honor the sacrifices our warriors have made and continue to make for all of us!

They are true heroes!
