How to Talk Openly About Suicide

It can be frightening when a friend or family member is thinking about suicide. What do you say? How do you say it? What if you say something wrong?

It is normal to question yourself and your ability to help. The thought of someone wanting to die can leave you feeling helpless, lost, and even guilty. So what can you do to help? The willingness to have the hard conversations is key to assisting our Marines and getting help so they can continue to thrive.

You are so right, Mair.  For clarification purposes for those 'not in the know' we felt it necessary to add 'Veteran'

Amen, ANGLICOone!!

I'm looking forward to a day when there are no Marines deployed to combat zones to send FPO boxes to.  For several of us who make regular shipments to the several ANGLICO units, our beer budgets are depleted.  However, if they all come home from Afghanistan, we'll still have all those aboard ship, ready to fight if a fight begins.  Right now, I'm preparing some Valentine's Day shipments for Marines aboard three ships.  Let's not forget all those, when OEF is finished.

Good morning Marines,

If I may add my two cents to the proper name for those Marines no longer active duty.

As I understand things, there are no former, ex or even retired Marines.  Only Marines:).  As the Trace Adkins song says, "A Marines' a Marine for life.  My honey is a Marine, a Vietnam Veteran he served 1968/1971 and our oldest Grandson graduated MCRD Parris Island on September 13, 2013.  So they are Marines for life, brothers in the worlds largest fraternity.  To quote Eleanor Rooseveldt, "Thank God for the Marines,"  Nough said gentlemen.  Thanks to everyone here on this site for your service to our country.

God Bless and Semper Fi

Welcome JebReb,

This isn't one of the more active groups here & I'm glad to see company. I was in the Corps from 77 - 82 and my youngest son just finished his tour in September. He's just back into civilian life and will restart school in January.

Happy belated Birthday & Veterans Day to you.

Paul

Alll good ideas, preachertom : ).  This discusstion group was originally titled "Former Marines".  It was recently changed to Veteran Marines.  Did you happen to read this discussion topic from above?
