Hi meemebop, after reading your concerns I had to respond. My Marine, my 18 year old grandson graduated PI boot camp last August. Those 13 weeks were tough for me not knowing what my he was going through. When the day came that we could finally see him the transformation was totally amazing. He went into boot camp as a typical teenager and emerged a Marine. Self assured confident and so totally proud of himself as we all were. From PI he went to Missouri and has now been stationed in Japan.

We were so anxious. Many good tears shed. By that time we had missed him so much and not being able to communicate during that time amplified our feelings. I think boot camp also serves to help the family with things to come.

Thanks, karebare for your input. You and your marine sound like me and my grandson! It's great isn't it? Yes, I will be at the graduation in October. The entire family already have our hotel reservations! I wish we were going already ha ha. So looking forward to it.

It is very tough. One of the physically hardest things he will ever do. I can tell you my marine came out of it a bit physically battered, but very confident and proud of himself for completing it. It's a beginning for him. Like you,  my marine is my grandson and I am very close to him. Will you be able to go to his graduation? It is a beautiful experience to see the transformation and all these young women and men.

I'm getting a little anxious and thinking about nothing else but my grandson leaving for PI on Momday 7/6 for boot camp. I have been reading a lot of comments from parents about the training and the difficult days ahead. The crucible scares me! Can someone put my mind at ease? My grandson is like my own son. I love him so much!

These young men following their dream, their goals!  This is a big, big decision in their lives.  It changes their lives and our lives forever!  The disciplines and values they learn will everyone they meet a better person.

It is so wonderful to feel that pride for your grandson.

My grandson is leaving July 6 for boot camp in Parris Island. We are so proud of him. Will miss him but know he is accomplishing what he has wanted to do for some time. He can't wait!
