@proud mom

just a warning.

Just when you think you can not be anymore proud,

The "pride meter" gets kicked up a notch or ten.

This journey your son chose is one few of us would choose for our children. It defies description, though many have tried. So pull up a chair, seat belt optional, and hold on. You are on the "pride ride" and the next stop is the Parade Deck at MCRD

Yesterday was a hard day for me. I subscribed to this site so that I had some where to turn. Your words were simple but really helped me make it through the day. It is hard to let go of my son but he is going to be a US Marine. I've seen how selfish, how strong, and how determined my son is. I know in my heart he is going to do his best and be his best. I couldn't be prouder of the man he has become.

Proud Mom reach out to the girl friend for his address. Now is the time to open all lines of communications. Keri is correct girl friends usually get the first letter, but there is no reason you can not be proactive.

Keri...makes sense. I guess its just hard to accept. This is my first son. I love him so much. I just want to be apart of this journey with him, but i feel so uninvolved...n it hurts. I try not to be selfish and remember this is about him. He has wanted to be a Marine since he was a little boy and he is doing it! I am so proud of him. But he is still my baby boy and I still want to be apart of his adult life. Letting go has been the most difficult thing I have ever had to do.

Recruits don't have much free time so usually the first letter goes out to girlfriends. You will probably receive a letter soon.

Take heart... your recruit knows that you will always be there for them. They know that you will always write to them. They Know that your love is unconditional and that you will be by their side because of your love for them. They are afraid that their friends will forget them and move on with their lives. This may often be the case, so when recruits write those letters their friends (especially girlfriends) will get most of the letters.

Start writing your letters now and when you get the mailing address.... send all of your letters and then write as often as you can.
Mail call is very important to them.

Hope you receive a letter soon! :)

My son has a girlfriend that he left behind to go to boot camp. He hasn't called me or sent me a letter. His girlfriend just received a letter from him. How do I get his address in order to write him or find out about his graduation? Hes been gone for almost a month.

Hi, Lisa and welcome! We're glad you've found us. What an exciting journey you have begun!  Here's a link to your son's battalion. In the info box is a link to your facebook group. Scroll a little further and you'll see a link to Charlie Co. here at MFN. Scroll a little further, and you'll see that Keri has posted a lot of helpful links, so browse around.  If you need any more info, just ask. :)  I wish you and your son the very best.
