Thank you all!

My son just deployed, too, on his first.  Just keep reminding yourself that they have the best training available, and with all the prayers that I know many people are sending for all of our troops, they are covered. And I know I got tired of hearing it, but it's very true....remember No News is Good News.  In the mean time, everybody is here for support.

Hi Melinda,

These deployments are tough for our Marines and for their families.  Everyone here is great and if you ask a question, someone has the answer!  Everyone here is great!  Hang in there and keep us posted.

Praying always for all our troops!

There's a good discussion group above called 1st deployment with members sharing the same as you Melinda. It's nice to know you aren't alone here.

In terms of computer access on deployment, it completely depends on where your Marine is based. In no case will Marines be allowed to use their personal computer to log onto the internet, Skype, etc., for security reason. If they happen to be at a base built up enough to have internet service, they will use the base's secured network for that.

Also, our Marines are 'working' long hours/days. My Marine told me his schedule was work, work out, sleep... repeat. We talk occasionally through Viber.

If you have any questions, just ask. There are many here who have been there or there now. We can share advice, information or just provide a ((hug)). :)
My prayers are with you and for your Marine and his unit.

Welcome melinda
Depending on where he is located, they can sometimes get wifi and skype or oovoo is great to have on your phone or computer. Hang in there.

My son is on his first deployment. He's been gone for a short while now. Really wanting to hear his voice!

aj's mom,

Have you received a letter from your Marines FRO?  We received one awhile back and later received an update.  Your Marine is supposed to list one person as official contact - that is the contact that will get the letter.

The FRO's are civilian employees and may be busy from time to time.

Good Luck,

Thank You for the info Keri!  Will call in the am (at a more respectable hour anyway) and try to touch base w/the FRO.  Appreciate the prayers always!  I know they are strong and trained well, but will breathe a little easier after some contact!  Thanks again for doing this and to your son and your family for serving!
