Bootprints
He steps onto the bootprints embedded in the sand
Bootprints of another who has walked that dusty land.
It is his turn to "cycle in" his journey's' just begun
It's time to relieve his brother and the job that he has done.

God Bless you all and prayers for you and your sons/daughters. My grandson gearing up for second deployment I am terrified. He says don't worry we are going to be ready.. Yeah right. They are strong and brave. I'm a mess.

I have a Marine mom whose son is in a high-security billet.  She counseled me to visualize Afghanistan (which is where both her son and my son were) as just a "cloud."  I should just think of him being there, somewhere in the "cloud" and not try to think beyond that because I really didn't know, couldn't know, wouldn't know what was going on.  She said I'd stay a lot more sane if I didn't think too much past the "cloud."  I wasn't always successful  -- I'd try to see inside the "cloud" -- but the idea did help me let go a bit.  I don't think any parents likes to be completely disconnected from what's going on with their child.  I can't tell you how many times I had to repeat the Serenity prayer to myself :)

I remember reading a story once about a Holocaust survivor who, when asked how he survived when so few did not, said, "I realized I couldn't control my environment, so I chose to control the only thing I could:  Myself and my thinking."  I've found that my thinking really is a powerful influence on how I'm coping.  If I can shift from what I don't know and what I worry about to something I can control, I cope a lot better.  I spent an awful lot of time sending care packages during my son's deployments, and doing one house project after another.  The more I accomplished, the better I coped.

e-Marine is a great idea. You will get what up dates the FRO is able to give direct from the FRO.

1076proudmom,  I know that it's always stressful when your child is deployed and for your own peace of mind,  have you connected with the parents of anyone else from his unit ? You would surely get more news when you don't hear from him directly. You could try a post in the discussion forum above this or on his units page. Have you tried EMarine ? I'll keep You & Yours in my prayers.

My son has been there since March.  I haven't heard about no mail from him, so he obviously is in a different area.  It IS tough not being able to hear from them or talk to them.  But like Dee said, I also live by "no news is good news" and just keep looking toward the day they come home.  He has mentioned, though, about heading someplace different soon.  But he is a high-security billet, so of course I don't know where or when or what they'll be doing.  The not knowing IS hard.  But I just keep praying and leaving him in God's hands for protection and provision.  I'll keep your son in my prayers as well as you, 1076proudmom.

Hang in there proudmom.  My son came back in May 2014 (wonder if your son's group replaced his) and it is so hard not to hear from them.  I had to live by the no news is good news.  You are in my thoughts and prayers - it is hard.
