My marine is finishing up mct and flys out to fort lee Virginia December 6th, 2016. He's going to the lav repairmen school house and I just need to know if he's going to be able to come home for Christmas. Someone please help me out!

Although some comments may be older, there is good information to read and learn.  Your Marine will need to report to his MOS location first to receive the firsthand information as his next assignment, MOS is his new command.

He most likely does not have leave time accrued coming right out of MCT.  Leave is accrued at a rate of 2.5 days per month. A Marine can usually earn 30 days leave in a calendar year. A Marine can accrue up to 60 days leave then he must either use it or lose it. The exception to this (I love the fact that there is almost always an exception), is leave earned during combat duty, which does not expire. Leave can be taken if approved by command and depending on "military necessity".  Your Marine will have to tell you what his "Leave Balance" is, and does he have enough to use?  After Recruit Training when they take their 10 day leave it is subtracted against leave earned during recruit training, giving them a negative balance for a while.

Many MOS schools (Forts, Army bases) do close during the holiday season but it is a command decision and can change from year to year.

My congratulations to your Marine on his upcoming MCT graduation.

I was mainly wondering if he would be able to get Recruiters Assistance for the Christmas break? Fort lee closes down from the 17th-4th of January. Do you think he'll get the chance to get RA then?

No, there is no RA for Marines coming out of MCT.

Now what could (as in an outside chance) happen, is that he could get a Special Liberty to travel beyond the milage restrictions of a normal 96 hr Liberty. That would only be because the school closes. BUT he most likely will either have duty or he will not find out if he could recieve this until the last minute.

Basically I'm just wondering if his mos school will be shut down since the army base is shut down

Yes the MOS school is shut down, the base is not.

But RA is just not handed out.

This is a good discussion to read through and see what occurred in previous years.

Once your Marine checks into Ft. Lee he will have a better idea of what will happen as far as the Christmas holiday.  He can call his Recruiter then.  But keep in mind too, than while a Marine is on RA duty, they usually go into the Recruit Station early morning and may not be dismissed until late at night. This gives you evenings and weekends to spend with your Marine.

Good luck to him when he does arrive at Ft. Lee.
