Don't know who to talk with, Son wants to change contract from reserve to full time

Found out from my oldest daughter that my son wants to change his contract from reserves to full time. He is presently at his MOS 1341 at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Yep, I'm scared. He signed up on the early entry program while a senior in high school and of course I had to sign the paper work as well. I know he has thought this decision through more then once and has a very smart head on his shoulders. This means he gives up a full time job as a mechanic when he comes home as a reserve. I know the place that his employment is promised has been holding the opening for him since September. I can't figure out what has changed his mind. Does any one know who I can talk to so I can maybe have them talk to him and make sure he has thought this out completely. I thought he was looking forward to coming home and having the job waiting for him. I don't know what has suddenly  changed his mind and so far he hasn't talked to me about it. His phone calls even stopped he just texts me once in a while. Any ideas would be appreciated

The person to talk to about this is your son. He's an adult and a Marine, and no one in his chain of command is going to change what they're doing because his mom called. Would you have been happy if your mom had called your first full-time employer about an issue?

On the other hand, I would be quite surprised if he's able to switch his contract to active that easily. It's not automatic just because someone wants to. I believe his Reserve unit would have to agree to let him go first.

I would bet that the phone calls have stopped because he is persuing this and knows you will be unhappy with it and try to talk him out of it. He loves his family and does not want to create discord in the family. Life will sort this out. As TigersGirl said, it is not just a matter of saying "I want to change contracts".

your son became friends with guys at mos he thinks he should have gone full son was a reservist......its almost impossible to go from reservist to full unless his mos is needed right relax hs going to be home

Thank you to every one who responded to my letter of concern. My son was able to get RA for the Christmas Holiday and we were able to sit down and at least talk with him for a few moments about why he had decided to change his contract. It is because he has wanted to be a Marine for years but wasn't sure until it was Military day at the High School during his senior year, and then the Marine Recruiter continue to show his interest when the army and navy where he had also checked into just seem to ignore him. He choose the reserves because he wanted to be close to home but also to be able to serve, but says now he finds the reserve is not enough for him. He wants to serve his country with full time honer and pride. He has already completed his leadership classes, has served as platoon and fire team leader and received his certificate in one of the corporael classes. Can't recall which he called it. He is just going full steam ahead. He doesn't want us to worry, but what parent doesn't. We will pray for him and know that the leadership that he has will train him to the best of their ability. He will be ready when the day comes up when he is deployed he will have our best wishes, love and prayers. He has grown up into his own man and I know this is his dream and we will see him follow it no matter where it leads. Again Thank You every one for following our path as we watch our son follow his dream and helping us through it
